Shudder orders The Dead Lands TV series

September 30, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Streaming service Shudder has ordered an eight-part TV series based upon the hit 2014 Māori action film The Dead Lands, with The New Zealand Herald reporting that filming is already underway in Auckland. Here’s the official key art…

The series “will focus on Waka Nuku Rau, a warrior who must find honour in a land ravaged by the supernatural. He is helped by a young woman named Mehe who is determined to help him with his cause.”

“The Dead Lands film was a seminal New Zealand story that took the Māori martial art of Mau Raku to audiences around the world,” said executive producer Matthew Metcalfe. “I am honoured to again lead a team of talented New Zealand actors and artisans to expand the world of the original film.”

The film’s original screenwriter Glenn Standring is scripting the series, while the cast includes Te Kohe Tuhaka (6 Days), Kirk Torrance (Outrageous Fortune), Miriama Smith (Filthy Rich), Grace Palmer (Adrift) and newcomers Darneed Christian and Jordi Webber. It is slated to air on the AMC-owned Shudder in 2019.
