Sony planning to add Spider-Man universe TV shows to its spinoff movies

March 13, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Sony is apparently going to produce some Spider-Man universe TV shows in the near future to add to the ‘Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters’ spinoff movies.

Spider-Man has certainly received a bump in popularity since his association with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and this rejuvenation has spread its way over to other Sony efforts in the world of the character, such as with the Tom Hardy-led Venom.

There are more Spider-Man universe efforts on the way, such as Jared Leto’s Morbius movie but Sony is also looking to go after the small screen, with Sony Pictures Television chairman Mike Hopkins telling Variety they are looking to create some Spider-Man connected TV content as part of the “next seven or eight years” of Spidey-related projects:

“We’re developing a lot of Marvel-related content, and I think we’ll be out in the market very soon with something really, really big and transformational for us, because we’ve not done any shows with Marvel before, with Marvel IP. So that’s a big piece of development that we’re onto.

“I think we aspire to have several shows in a universe that we create that can pollinate between each other, and to working with a partner to make that happen.”
