Sophie Turner says next X-Men movie will shoot this year

February 13, 2017 by Gary Collinson

We know that 20th Century Fox is set to begin production on X-Men: The New Mutants in May, and also has Deadpool 2 (and Gambit…) in development, but as yet all we’ve got to go on with regards to the main X-Men franchise is rumours.

Apparently, the next instalment is going by the title of X-Men: Supernova, and is being scripted by Simon Kinberg, while Bryan Singer has previously suggested he won’t be directing (he’s currently tied up with Marvel and Fox’s X-Men TV pilot).

There has been unconfirmed reports that X-Men: Supernova will begin filming in the Spring / Summer, and speaking to HeyUGuys at the British Academy Film Awards, actress Sophie Turner has confirmed that cameras will roll at some point this year.

“We’re about to start shooting the next X-Men. We’ve just finished shooting Season 7 of Game of Thrones, and I’ve got a couple of movies to do before X-Men starts. And then we go on to Season 8. So I’ve got a busy year lined up.”

It would seem that Turner’s Jean Grey could have a pivotal role in Supernova, with persistent rumours suggesting we’ll be revising The Dark Phoenix Saga, and even an alleged synopsis surfacing earlier this month:

Gathered together by Professor Charles Xavier to protect a world that fears and hates them, the X-Men had fought many battles, been on adventures that spanned galaxies, grappled enemies of limitless might, but none of this could prepare them for the most shocking struggle they would ever face. One of their own members, Jean Grey, has gained power beyond all comprehension, and that power has corrupted her absolutely! Now they must decide if the life of the woman they cherish is worth the existence of the entire universe!

If Fox is planning on going into production this summer, the studio has some work on its hands; not only does it need to find a new director, but it will also have some contracts to renegotiate, seeing as its deals with the likes of James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawerence, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult expired by X-Men: Apocalypse.
