Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is in “deep” post-production for IMAX release

While Spider-Man will be swinging back into theaters in just a few weeks in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fans won’t have to wait that much longer to see him on the big screen again in next year’s highly anticipated Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse. Writers and producers Christopher Miller and Phil Lord recently provided a new update that they are “deep” into the post-production process which involves getting the film ready for IMAX screens.

Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse has had a very long saga getting to screen as it was delayed before being taken off of Sony’s release schedule altogether. The film has a release date of June 28th, 2027 and is currently on track to meet that release as Lord and Miller revealed in an interview with Empire.

“We are deep, deep in it,” Miller said on Empire’s podcast. He then explained they and the production team are hard at work to make an animated movie on IMAX’s expanded 1.43:1 screen ratio. “We’re actually going today to the IMAX headquarters to see what the footage looks like at scale, and make sure that it has the resolution that it needs to look gorgeous. We’re chugging away in the edit room with the team, and it’s coming together really well. It’s a lot of movie, and a lot to do. You got to keep doing something that hasn’t been done before. That’s all you got to do. Easy!”

The Spider-Verse films began with 2017’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse where Miles Morales became the new Spider-Man after the death of Peter Parker and met several other Spider-Men and Women from alternate dimensions. Its sequel Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse upped the ante by introducing hundreds of different Spider-heroes with their own distinct visual look and style. As the likely concluding chapter to the Spider-Verse saga, especially after Across‘ huge cliffhanger, it can be expected Beyond The Spider-Verse will up it even more as Miles, Spider-Gwen, Peter B. Parker and their allies attempt to save the universes from collapse.

“Details matter,” said Lord. “The thing that’s a joy about those pictures is that everyone on the crew is so good at what they do. So you just sit around, marvel at all these brilliant artists, and then we get to work with these great filmmakers, sit in a room all day, and just try to make everything incrementally better together. It’s a lot of fun.”

Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse will swing into theatres June 28th, 2027.
