Spider-Man: Far From Home director on Avengers: Endgame’s unexpected impact

June 26, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Jon Watts, the director of Spider-Man: Far From Home, has discussed the unexpected impact Avengers: Endgame had on his movie.

The team at Marvel Studios are all on the same page and kept updated about what’s going on in its various corners but this doesn’t mean Spider-Man: Far From Home director Jon Watts wasn’t surprised by the events of Endgame.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Watts said he had no clue Tony Stark would mee his end in Endgame after his first Spider-Man movie: “Coming out of Homecoming, I had no idea. When I found that out, you realize, ‘Oh that’s not something you can just address and then move on. That’s what the movie is going to be about. There’s no way around it.’ If anything, it focuses you on the kind of story that you’re going to be telling.”

Luckily, however, Watts got told about Stark pretty early on: “When they knew what they were doing, you know, I knew when my movie was coming out, so I got the talk. I was sat down and pitched all the things that are going to happen, and as things changed a little bit along the way on their end, I’d get updates.

“You feel weird, because you’re just constantly nervous that you’re going to say something and slip up, and have [Avengers: Endgame directors] Joe and Anthony Russo murder you. Yeah, it was a tense life.”

Of course, fans can see the full impact the events of Endgame have had on Watts’ movie when it arrives in July.
