St. Vincent making directorial debut in female-helmed horror film XX

April 14, 2016 by William Fanelli

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalists Annie Clark, better known as St. Vincent, is about to make a horror film. Yes, you heard that correctly, the brilliant mind behind “Digital Witness” is set to make her directorial debut in an all female-helmed horror anthology film called XX.

Clark has officially just boarded the genre film anthology to be made by Magnet Releasing (the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures) where, according to THR, she’ll direct a segment which she co-wrote. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to explore the genre-film medium,” said Clark. The segment (which has yet to release a title) was co-written and will be produced by Roxanne Benjamin of V/H/S fame.

Clark will be joining an extremely talented list of female writer-directors on XX. Among those already onboard are Jennifer Chambers Lynch (Boxing Helena, Surveillance), Karyn Kusama (Girlfight, Jennifer’s Body) and visual effects artist-turned-director Jovanka Vuckovic (The Guest). Mary Harron (American Psycho, The Notorious Bettie Page) and Sofia Carrillo (La Casa Triste) are among those no longer attached to the project.

Clark released her self-titled Grammy-winning album in 2014. She has made a handful of appearances in Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein’s sketch-comedy series Portlandia.
