Star Trek 4 attaches a new writer as Chris Pine and the cast are set to return

March 27, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Board The Enterprise once again, as we are heading back to deep space. Yes, Star Trek 4 is still alive at Paramount, with Variety confirming that Steve Yockey, one of the minds behind the Max series The Flight Attendant, has just signed on as the screenwriter for the project.

The more significant and shocking news is that the film is being labeled Star Trek 4, which means it will continue the recent films starting in 2009. The project is considered the cast’s final chapter, and will see the return of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldaña, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Simon Pegg.

Following the lackluster release of 2016’s Star Trek Beyond, it seemed near impossible to make Star Trek 4. Matt Shakman was once attached to direct, and screenwriters Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet were attached to the script. Shakman left for Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four, and the project seemed dead.

Adding Steve Yockey is quite a good turnaround for the project; the writer is mainly known for penning works on shows like MTV’s Scream, Awkward, and four seasons of Supernatural.

It should be noted that Paramount is also developing a separate Star Trek project with writer Seth Grahame-Smith and director Toby Haynes. This project features a new cast in a new story.
