Star Trek: Starfleet Academy series in development for Paramount+

February 3, 2022 by Gary Collinson

After confirming renewals for all of its current Star Trek shows last month, it looks like Paramount+ and CBS Studios are prepping another instalment in the ever-expanding sci-fi franchise with Deadline revealing that a Star Trek: Starfleet Academy series is in development.

As revealed by the trade, Absentia co-creator Gaia Violo is said to be working on a take for the project, which will revolve around a batch of Starfleet cadets mentored for leadership roles in the United Federation of Planets space force.

Violo will reportedly pitch Starfleet Academy to Paramount+ soon, and the hope is that the potential series would be next in the development pipeline after the long-planned Star Trek: Discovery spinoff Section 31 with Michelle Yeoh, which is finally expected to get an official pickup this year.

Paramount+’s current Trek line-up incudes Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Short Treks, as well as the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy. The newest show, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, is set to premiere in May.
