Star Wars reportedly sitting out Comic-Con in favour of D23

July 4, 2017 by Gary Collinson

If you’re attending the San Diego Comic-Con later this month and have been looking forward to getting a glimpse of the upcoming Star Wars movies, you may be disappointed to hear that Disney and Lucasfilm are reportedly sitting out of SDCC and focusing their promotional efforts on the D23 Expo.

According to SDCC Unofficial Blog, a Lucasfilm Publicity representative has confirmed to the site that “our presence at SDCC 2017 will be focused on our booth on the convention floor, so there will be no press events or interview opportunities this year.” So, while SDCC will likely feature panels for the various Star Wars toys, books, comics and merchandise, there’ll be nothing for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, nor the untitled Han Solo project.

Disney is playing host to the Disney Studios Live-Action Films Panel at D23 on Saturday, July 15th, where The Last Jedi is expected to feature heavily. However, given the current situation with Han Solo, it’s unclear whether we’ll get our first glimpse of the spinoff, or if Lucasfilm will decide to hold back until Ron Howard has had a chance to settle into the director’s chair.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set for release on December 14th in the UK and December 15th in the States and sees returning cast members Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke), Peter Mayhew and Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Tim Rose (Admiral Ackbar), Mike Quinn (Nien Nunb), Simon Pegg (Unkar Plutt), and Warwick Davis joined by new additions Jimmy Vee (Pan) as R2-D2, Kelly Marie Tran (Ladies Like Us) as Rose, and Benicio Del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Laura Dern (Jurassic Park).
