Star Wars series The Mandalorian finishes filming

It might be set in a galaxy far, far away, but Disney+’s The Mandalorian has moved a step closer to your TV screens with the news that principal photography has finished on the Star Wars spin-off series.

The announcement came via The Star Wars Show, and with the $100 million budgeted, 10 episode adventure originally rumoured to bow sometime in 2019, there’s fair chance we could get a look at some of the finished footage very soon.

Produced by Jon Favreau, and directed by a team as impressive as Red Squadron, one that includes The Clone Wars‘ veteran Dave Filoni, Better Call Saul and Jessica Jones‘ helmer Deborah Chow, Thor: Ragnarok‘s Taika Waititi, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, and Bryce Dallas Howard, there’s little wonder we’re all considering adding another subscription service to our growing roster.

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian is expected to premiere on Disney+ in late 2019 and sees Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) leading a cast that includes Gina Carano (Deadpool), Carl Weathers (Rocky), Nick Nolte (Afflication), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Omid Abtahi (American Gods) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man).
