Steamboat Willie-inspired horror Screamboat gets teaser trailer

September 2, 2024 by EJ Moreno

If you’re curious about why this upcoming horror film has a mouse that looks like the face of a global brand, join the chaos.

For those who don’t remember, 1928’s Steamboat Willie entered the public domain this year, meaning filmmakers and artists could use it freely in their work. As we saw with plenty of other IP, including Winnie-The-Pooh, it’s only a matter of time before there’s a horror spin.

We now have our first look at Screamboat, the new slasher inspired by the iconic short film. Terrifier star David Howard Thornton slashes again, taking on the mantle of the film’s twisted version of Mickey Mouse.

The cast features Allison Pittel (Stream), Amy Schumacher (The Mean One), Jesse Posey (Teen Wolf), Jesse Kove (Cobra Kai), and Rumi C Jean-Louis (Hightown). Jarlath Conroy (Day of the Dead) and Charles Edwin Powell (The Exorcist III) join them.

In terms of production, Screamboat will “feature a mix of practical creature effects, miniatures, and cutting edge virtual production to showcase its very mischievous monster slashing his way through a ferry of fear.”

We’ll have to wait and see how it is received, but given the year horror has been having, fans might be craving the insanity of this killer mouse. Check out the poster and trailer below…

“A mischievous mouse stalks a group of New Yorkers on a late-night ferry ride, unleashing murderous mayhem on a relaxing commute. Can the ship’s motley crew of travelers find a way to stop a killer creature who has developed a taste for tourists?”

Screamboat is coming to theaters in 2025 via Iconic Events Releasing.
