Steven Yeun, Oprah Winfrey and Kelly Clarkson lead voice cast for Sony’s The Star

January 19, 2017 by Justin Cook

On Wednesday, Sony Pictures Animation gave further details about their slate of upcoming movies and unveiled the star-studded voice cast for The Star, their animated nativity film. The project centers around a Donkey named Bo who teams up with a slew of stable animals to save the very first Christmas.

Steve Yeun has signed on to lead the voice cast and take on the role of Bo, while his closest animal friends will be played by Keegan-Michael Key (Dave the dove) and Aidy Bryant (Ruth the sheep). The rest of the cast includes Kelly Clarkson as Leah the horse, Kristin Chenoweth as Mouse, Anthony Anderson as Zach the goat, Gabriel Iglesias as Rufus the dog, Ving Rhames as Thaddeus the dog, Delilah Rene as Elizabeth, Kris Kristofferson as Old Donkey, Gina Rodriguez as Mary, Zachary Levi as Joseph and Christopher Plummer as King Herod.

Additionally, Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry and Tracy Morgan will voice three camels named Deborah, Cyrus and Felix, respectively.

The official plot synopsis can be read below…

A small but brave donkey named Bo yearns for a life beyond his daily grind at the village mill. One day he finds the courage to break free, and finally goes on the adventure of his dreams. On his journey, he teams up with Ruth, a lovable sheep who has lost her flock and Dave, a dove with lofty aspirations. Along with three wisecracking camels and some eccentric stable animals, Bo and his new friends follow the Star and become accidental heroes in the greatest story ever told – the first Christmas.

Timothy Reckart (Anomalisa) will make his feature-length directorial debut with the film, which is scripted by Carlos Kotkin (Rio 2); it will be hitting theaters on November 10th, 2017.
