Suicide Squad 2 unlikely to begin shooting until Fall 2018

August 31, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Despite being on the fast track at Warner Bros., it seems that the sequel to last year’s box office hit Suicide Squad may still be some time away, with Variety’s Justin Kroll reporting that Will Smith’s schedule on the live-action Aladdin and sci-fi actioner Gemini Man means production is unlikely to get underway until late in 2018.

So hearing at the earliest, SUICIDE SQUAD 2 won't go in to production until fall 2018 because of Smith's schedule with ALADDIN and GEMINI

It’s unclear whether this delay to Suicide Squad 2 will have any knock on effect with Warner’s other DC Extended Universe projects, given that the reported plan at the studio is to have the sequel followed by the recently announced Joker and Harley Quinn movie, which would then lead into Gotham City Sirens. That being said, Warner Bros. does have a host of other DCEU projects that could fill the gap, assuming they can get any of them beyond the development stage…

Suicide Squad 2 currently remains without a director, with Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows) passing on the project last month in order to direct Dwayne Johnson’s in Disney’s Jungle Cruise.
