Acclaimed Sundance coming-of-age drama Good One unveils trailer and poster

May 11, 2024 by Amie Cranswick

Having scored rave reviews at Sundance earlier this year ahead of a European premiere at Cannes this month, Metrograph has released a poster and trailer for writer-director India Donaldson’s feature debut Good One.

The drama stars Lily Collias as teenager Sam, who embarks on a camping trip with her father (James Le Gros) and his oldest friend (Danny McCarthy), but as the pair bring up long-held grievances she attempts to mediate their quarrel, leading to lines being crossed, tensions rising and Sam struggling to deal with the dad’s emotional limitations.

In India Donaldson’s insightful, piercing debut, 17-year-old Sam (Collias) embarks on a three-day backpacking trip in the Catskills with her dad, Chris (Le Gros) and his oldest friend, Matt (McCarthy). As the two men quickly settle into a gently quarrelsome brotherly dynamic, airing long-held grievances, Sam, wise beyond her years, attempts to mediate. But when lines are crossed and Sam’s trust is betrayed, tensions reach a fever pitch, as Sam struggles with her dad’s emotional limitations and experiences the universal moment when the parental bond is tested

Good One arrives in cinemas on August 9th.
