Taika Waititi’s Star Wars co-writer gives fans a brief update

November 4, 2021 by EJ Moreno

Fans were delighted when news broke that Taika Waititi would helm a Star Wars film for Disney. Since its initial announcement, though, there’s been a bit of radio silence concerning the project. However, the feature’s co-writer is now speaking up and updating fans with what’s to come.

Scottish screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns will co-write the script with Waititi, having previously worked on films like 1917 and Last Night in Soho. She says working on the script is taking some time to perfect and mentions it is coming along nicely in a recent interview with Variety’s Marc Malkin.

“You have to research, study and spend a lot of time to get it right,” Wilson-Cairns said. “It’s really important to honor not only your commitment to it but also to the legions of fans out there.” She also adds that she even had Darth Maul pyjamas, which does show she has loyalty to some of the franchise’s more iconic characters.

The Taika Waititi film isn’t the next project for Lucasfilm, though, as Patty Jenkins’ Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is slated for release in late 2023. Next up for screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns is a crime thriller, The Good Nurse, which stars Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne and is being directed by Tobias Lindholm.
