Having held onto top spot at the box office last weekend, Warner Bros. and DC Films’ The Batman has crossed a major milestone with the film passing the $500 million mark heading into its third weekend in cinemas.
By close of play on Thursday, the Matt Reeves-directed film had amassed $510.8 million, with $263.3 million of that figure from domestic ticket sales and $247.5 from international markets.

The Batman is expected to hold onto top spot again this weekend, where the only major new competition is Crunchyroll’s anime feature Jujutsu Kaisen 0. It is also looking to increase its overseas haul as it reaches China, although with approximately 35% of Chinese theaters closed due to COVID spikes, early figures suggest a soft $3.7 million from its Friday opening.

Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.
