The Crown adds Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret for final season

July 4, 2020 by Ricky Church

Netflix has announced Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread) has been cast in the fifth and final season of The Crown as Princess Margaret. She joins Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter), who will play Queen Elizabeth II.

The Crown has followed the lives of Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family from the 1930s to the following decades as they adapt to the ever changing times in Britain. Manville takes over from Vanessa Kirby, who played Margaret in the first two seasons, and Helen Bonham Carter, who portrayed Margaret in the third and upcoming fourth seasons.

“I could not be happier to be playing Princess Margaret,” Manville said. “The baton is being passed on from two formidable actresses and I really don’t want to let the side down. Furthermore, to play siblings with my dear friend Imelda Staunton will be nothing short of complete joy.”

The fifth and final season of The Crown will begin filming next year. The fourth season managed to complete production before lockdown began and will premiere on Netflix later this year. Joining the cast is The X-Files‘ Gillian Anderson as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Pennyworth’s Emma Corrin as Princess Diana.
