The Flash TV series sets final season premiere as The Flash movie moves up a week

December 7, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Fans of Grant Gustin’s Scarlet Speedster can now mark their calendars for the DC hero’s last run, with The CW announcing that the ninth and final season of The Flash is set to premiere on Wednesday, February 8th.

“The Flash will be remembered as one of the greatest shows in the history of The CW, and everyone involved in its excellent nine-season run should be very proud,” said Brad Schwartz, President, Entertainment, The CW Network (via Deadline). “The team has delivered an epic final season, filled with plenty of twists, guest stars and surprises that will delight every fan. Now is the time to catch-up and enjoy this fantastic final ride alongside the fastest man alive.”

The synopsis for the ninth season of The Flash reads:

After defeating the Reverse Flash once and for all, the 13-episode Season 9 picks up one week later following their epic battle, and Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Iris West-Allen (Candice Patton) are reconnecting and growing closer than ever before. But when a deadly group of Rogues descend on Central City led by a powerful new threat, The Flash and his team—Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), Meta-Empath Cecile Horton (Danielle Nicolet), the light-powered meta Allegra Garcia (Kayla Compton), brilliant tech-nerd Chester P. Runk (Brandon McKnight), and reformed cryogenics thief Mark Blaine (Jon Cor)—must once again defy impossible odds to save the day. But as The Rogues are defeated, a deadly new adversary rises to challenge Barry Allen’s heroic legacy. And in their greatest battle yet, Barry and Team Flash will be pushed to their limits, in order to save Central City one last time.

As well as bringing down the curtain on the Arrowverse series, 2023 is also set to see Ezra Miller’s version of Barry Allen back on the big screen, and it seems that Warner Bros. is confident that Miller can behave themself following their public apology as the studio has decided to move up the release of The Flash movie by a week to June 16th.

The long-delayed solo Flash film is directed by Andy Muschietti (It) and promises a multiverse-spanning, DCEU-altering adventure. However, its status has been the subject of much speculation in the wake of Miller’s various legal troubles and the Warner Bros. Discovery merger which led to the shock cancellation of Batgirl and a major DC overhaul with James Gunn and Peter Safran subsequently appointed as co-chairmen of a rebranded DC Studios.

Along with Miller, The Flash features a cast that includes Ben Affleck (Batman), Michael Keaton (Batman), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Rob Livingston (Henry Allen), Maribel Verdu (Nora Allen), Sasha Calle (Supergirl), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Antje Treau (Faora-Ul).
