The Lando Star Wars: Disney+ TV series is now a movie

September 14, 2023 by Ricky Church

To quote the man himself, “Well, what have we here?” The Lando TV series Donald Glover and his brother Stephen Glover were announced to be writing a couple months ago will no longer be a series, but a feature film starring Glover as the galaxy’s most charismatic swindler.

Glover played Lando Calrissian, first originated by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back, in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. It detailed how he and Han Solo, played by Alden Ehrenreich, met as they joined forces in a heist and how Han later ‘won’ the Millennium Falcon off of Lando. Glover’s portrayal was one of the highlights of Solo and has been a role he’s been keen to play again.

Stephen Glover was a guest on the podcast Pablo Torre Finds Out and revealed the proposed TV series had since become a film. The news was later confirmed by Variety from Lucasfilm.

“It’s not even a show…the idea right now is to do a movie,” said Stephen Glover during his podcast appearance. “Right now, because of the strike, it’s kind of like telephone, all of the information.”

The Glovers had reached a deal with Lucasfilm to write Lando prior to both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Work on the film will not begin until the strikes have ended.

What do you think of the news? Are you happy Lando will be getting his own film or would you have preferred a longer series? Let us know on our social channels at @flickeringmyth…
