The Muppet Show special event coming in 2026 with Sabrina Carpenter as musical guest

December 17, 2025 by Ricky Church

It is time to light the lights and once again meet the Muppets as Disney and ABC will air a Muppet Show special event from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg with pop star Sabrina Carpenter appearing as the musical guest. Read Kermit The Frog’s announcement and watch the teaser below…

The event comes ahead of the 50th anniversary of The Muppet Show, which first aired in September 1976. Led by Kermit The Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo and others, the show was a family variety sketch series featuring the Muppets and numerous guest stars and musicians such as Mark Hamill, Julie Andrews, Sylvester Stallone, Elton John, Alice Cooper and Johnny Cash.

The Muppet Show special will air on ABC and Disney+ February 4th, 2026. Rogen and Goldberg will executive produce the event which will be directed by Alex Timbers, who will also executive produce alongside Carpenter. The special will also bring back Muppet performers Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman and Matt Vogel.

“It’s going to be great to welcome back longtime fans, and to give a new generation of fans a chance to see how we got our start, how Miss Piggy became a star and so much more,” said Kermit. “Today, I’m proud to say: ‘It’s time to play the music, light the lights and meet the Muppets on Disney Plus tonight!’  And as for Statler and Waldorf, the two old guys in the balcony,  I can only add: ‘Sorry, guys, but….here we go again.”

The Muppets have been a fixture of the entertainment industry for over 50 years, first originating on TV in the 1950s before appearing on Sesame Street and then The Muppet Show. They have appeared in several films that began with 1979’s The Muppet Movie and the iconic classic The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island. Their last big screen adventure was Muppet’s Most Wanted in 2014, but Disney+ have exclusively aired the film Muppets Haunted Mansion in 2021 and the series The Muppets Mayhem in 2023.

It’s The Muppet Show! Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the beloved Muppet gang are back with a brand-new special event. Music, comedy, and a whole lot of chaos are bound to ensue when The Muppets once again take the stage of the original Muppet Theatre with their very special guest, Sabrina Carpenter!

The Muppet Show special event will air on February 4th, 2026.
