The Pope’s Exorcist trailer offers first look at Russell Crowe battling demons in the Vatican

February 22, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Sony Screen Gems has summoned a trailer, poster and behind-the-scenes featurette for their demons in the diocese horror The Pope’s Exorcist.

Directed by Overlord‘s Julius Avery, The Pope’s Exorcist is a supernatural thriller that tells the story of a real-life priest, Father Gabriele Amorth, played by Russell Crowe, who acted as the chief exorcist of the Vatican, reportedly performing more than 100,000 exorcisms in his lifetime until he passed away at the age of 91. His story was recently told in the documentary The Devil and Father Amorth from filmmaker William Friedkin, director of The Exorcist.

Also starring Ralph Ineson (The VVitch), Alex Essoe (Doctor Sleep), and Franco Nero, you can check out the trailer and behind the scenes featurette here…

Inspired by the actual files of Father Gabriele Amorth, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican (Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe), The Pope’s Exorcist follows Amorth as he investigates a young boy’s terrifying possession and ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy the Vatican has desperately tried to keep hidden.

The Pope’s Exorcist will possess cinemas screens from April 14, 2023.
