The Rocky Horror Show Video Game hits Nintendo Switch and Steam

October 21, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Bit Bot Media and FreakZone Games have released The Rocky Horror Show Video Game, a reimagining of Richard O’Brien’s iconic musical Rocky Horror Show.  For those old enough, it is not a remake of the 1985 game on the Spectrum and Commodore 64, although it does have 8-bit style graphics and chiptune renditions of the famous songs, including the fan-favorite ‘Time Warp’.

This sidescrolling adaptation faithfully recreates scenes from the stage play and allows players to take control of Brad, Janet and Dr. Scott as they work their way through Dr. Frank N Furter’s mansion.  Players will encounter enemies and characters from the play while they traverse each level, which have been meticulously designed to capture the essence of the original sets.

As players journey through the levels they will be able to jump over obstacles, dodge perilous traps and pick up objects to throw at enemies, all to music from the stage play in all its 8-bit glory.

“The Rocky Horror Show is a unique experience that transcends traditional entertainment, and we wanted to bring that magic to gamers—whether they’re already fans of the IP or discovering it for the first time,”says producer Joshua Viola. “For those familiar with Rocky Horror, they’ll get to relive it in a fresh, exciting way. For newcomers, it’s an unforgettable introduction to a cult classic, delivered with a twist only a video game can provide. But beyond all that, it’s simply a blast to play. At its core, it’s a true platformer, and we’ve made sure the gameplay is every bit as engaging as the musical itself.”

The Rocky Horror Show Video Game is available now on Nintendo Switch and Steam, with other console versions on the way.
