The Russos developing Marvel vs. DC Comics documentary series

November 18, 2019 by Gary Collinson

They may be taking a break from the Marvel Cinematic Universe after their string of smash hits with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, but filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo have already lined up another comic book-related project.

As revealed by Deadline, the brothers are teaming with Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce, directors of Framing John DeLorean and Believer, to develop a documentary series for the upcoming Quibi streaming service entitled Slugfest, which will explore the rivalry between comic book giants Marvel and DC.

Here’s the official synopsis for Slugfest, which is inspired by Reed Tucker’s book Slugfest: Inside the Epic, 50-year Battle Between Marvel and DC:

“The men and women who were behind the creation of some of the best-known and most revered characters in the world will share their stories and reflect on the symbiotic relationship between DC and Marvel, whose rivalry pushed the medium to its greatest heights. The series features the stories of the remarkable behind-the-scenes endeavors and achievements that defined these industry titans, from the secret crossover inspired by the Halloween parades of small-town Rutland, Vermont, to the history behind the bone-crushing handshake between Superman and Spider-Man, in the first official crossover.”

Slugfest is being produced through the Russos’ production company AGBO, with Peter Rieveschl (The Amazing Race), Nick Gilhool (Top Chef) and Jen Casey (Extreme Weather) producing and the Russos executive producing.
