The Sandman coming to 4K and Blu-ray in November

September 9, 2023 by Ricky Church

The first season of Netflix and Warner Bros.’ adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s groundbreaking series The Sandman is getting a 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD release this fall.

The Sandman follows Morpheus, sometimes known as Dream, a cosmic entity that controls the land of dreams all humans travel to in their slumber, after he escapes from captivity and goes on a quest to reclaim his lost power. The series stars Tom Sturridge as Dream with an ensemble cast as Dream travels across the world and to different realms to set the world right after his captivity threw it out of balance.

The first season will hit stores on November 28th while it will be released digitally on September 18. There are not many special features included, the two listed being ‘The Sandman: Behind the Scenes Sneak Peek’ and ‘The World of The Endless’.

The Sandman was renewed for a second season and began pre-production with Gaiman giving an update to its progress a few months ago, but that was prior to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes which have halted several productions. There has been no further update on how far Gaiman and the crew were able to complete or if they had finished casting so we’ll likely have to wait a while to learn if production will quickly begin once the strikes conclude.

There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way.

The Sandman stars Tom Sturridge (Irma Vep) as Dream, Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) as Lucifer, Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) as Roderick Burgess, Boyd Holbrook (Narcos) as The Corinthian, Patton Oswalt (Happy!) as the voice of Matthew the Raven, Kirby Howell-Baptiste (The Good Place) as Death, Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) as Johanna Constantine, Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck) as Ethel Cripps, Mason Alexander Park (Cowboy Bebop) as Desire and David Thewlis (Harry Potter) as John Dee.

The Sandman Season 1 is available to stream now on Netflix.
