The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel dethrones Fifty Shades of Grey at the UK box office

UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 27th February to Sunday 1st March 2015…

After two weeks atop the UK box office chart, Universal’s Fifty Shades of Grey has been knocked into second place by the comedy sequel The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which opened with £3,771,852, including £705,000 of Thursday previews. That’s a healthy increase on its predecessor, which debuted with £2.22 million back in 2012.

Three other newcomers also cracked the top ten, with the Will Smith / Margot Robbie con artist caper Focus earning £1,910,245 in third place, followed by Jennifer Lopez erotic thriller The Boy Next Door in seventh with £406,174 and acclaimed horror It Follows in eighth with £371,142.
