Todd McFarlane reveals Batman/Spawn crossover that never was

February 5, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Todd McFarlane has taken to Facebook to discuss a never-before-seen and ultimately abandoned crossover between Batman and Spawn, which he would have penned with Greg Capullo providing pencils. Here’s a look at a cover the duo produced for the series:

“Years ago there was a deal for DC Comics and myself to do a cool Batman/Spawn cross-over book (for those not hip to comic lingo, that’s a book in which both characters are in the same issue),” states McFarlane. “I was to have written and inked it, while a talented penciller, Greg Capullo, was going to draw it. for a variety of reasons (mostly on my shoulders) the book never got off the ground, but a few pages and promo pieces were done for it. Below is one such piece drawn by Greg and inked by myself.”

As it happens, the two characters have met before, with McFarlane and Frank Miller collaborating on a 1994 one-shot Spawn/Batman, which predated this abandoned project.
