Tom Cruise will not slow down his action career, planning twenty more years of stunts

July 6, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Tom Cruise just celebrated his 61st birthday and is not slowing down his action career anytime soon.

While promoting his upcoming film, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, the actor spoke about his career and where he sees himself in twenty years. It seems like he still pictures himself taking risky stunts and doing daring things even as he ages.

Cruise tells The Sydney Morning Herald, “Harrison Ford is a legend. I hope to be still going. I’ve got 20 years to catch up with him. I hope to keep making Mission: Impossible films until I’m his age.”

The actor is looking at Ford, who just starred in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny at 80. Cruise is known for his impressive stunts and commitment to the cinematic experience, so he’ll look to keep that alive for as long as someone like Ford.

Cruise is also thrilled for the summer blockbuster season, even noting his viewing schedule for the double-header of Barbie or Oppenheimer. He tells the outlet, “I want to see both Barbie and Oppenheimer. I’ll see them opening weekend. Friday, I’ll see Oppenheimer first and then Barbie on Saturday … I grew up seeing movies on the big screen. That’s how I make them, and I like that experience; it’s immersive, and to have that as a community and an industry, it’s important.”

All three of the films will open this July.

Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One sees Tom Cruise return as Ethan Hunt, alongside Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Mariela Garriga, Henry Czerny, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell, Frederick Schmidt, Cary Elwes, Mark Gatiss, Indira Varma, and Rob Delaney.

In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is only in cinemas, 4DX, and IMAX from July 10th.
