Tom Holland says Uncharted movie starts shooting in four weeks and takes inspiration from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

February 19, 2020 by Liam Waddington

After the recent postponing of the Uncharted movie and the loss of yet another director, this time in Bumblebee helmer Travis Knight, fans have been debating whether the long-planned film will ever come to fruition.

Now, in a recent interview, Nathan Drake star Tom Holland has claimed filming on the upcoming video game adaptation will begin in four weeks and the film will take inspiration from the fourth instalment in the franchise, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which happens to be one of his “favourite games ever.”

“If I’m honest, one of my favourite video games ever is the fourth Uncharted game… Unbelievable. And lots of the inspiration from the film has come from that game in particular,” said Holland while speaking to IGN. “It was interesting when I sat down with [Sony Pictures Chairman] Tom Rothman and we were talking about video games, and I was like ‘Oh, I’ve just finished Uncharted.’ And he was like ‘Well, why don’t you play Nathan Drake?’ I remember being like, ‘I would do anything to play Nathan Drake. Please, that would be amazing.’ So yeah, we start shooting in like four weeks. Mark Wahlberg is going to be amazing as Sully. The stunt department that we have out there in Berlin have done an amazing job already, prepping the stunts, and it’s going to be an exciting one.”

With the Uncharted movie focusing on a much younger Nathan Drake and taking inspiration from Uncharted 4, the film could be following on from the multiple flashback sequences in the fourth game which explored on an untold period of Drake’s life with his brother Sam before he met Sully.

Although it hasn’t been confirmed yet, Sony is reportedly wanting Zombieland and Venom director Ruben Fleischer to helm the project which will star Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Walhberg as Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan.
