TRON: Ares begins filming and debuts official logo

January 20, 2024 by EJ Moreno

As director Joachim Rønning says, prepare to enter the grid again as the digital delight known as Tron is back with the third installment, Tron: Ares, which officially begins principal photography.

The long-awaited movie was set to film last August but was halted due to the WAG and SAG-AFTRA strikes that interfered with multiple projects.

The filmmaker noted at the time that: “Today was supposed to be our first day of principal photography on TRON: ARES (a movie subsequently about AI and what it means, and takes, to be human). Instead, we are shut down with over a hundred and fifty people laid off. It’s indefinite, which makes it exponentially harder for everyone.”

The screenplay was written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne and will “focus on the emergence of a sentient program that crosses over into the human world that is not ready for contact.”

Jared Leto will play Ares, the sentient program. Starring alongside Leto are Greta Lee (The Morning Show), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Evan Peters (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), Cameron Monaghan (Shameless), and Sarah Desjardins (Yellowjackets).
