March 12, 2016 by Gary Collinson

In this edition of The Week in Spandex, we look at Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man, Iron Man 4, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Ultimate Spider-Man vs. The Sinister 6, X-Men: Apocalypse, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, Batman, Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, Aquaman, Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Gotham, Powerless, The Tick, Hellboy III and more…

Having kept the wall-crawler well under wraps during the marketing campaign to date, Marvel finally gave us a look at the MCU incarnation of Spider-Man this week with the release of the final trailer for Captain America: Civil War, which has set a new Marvel record, pulling in 95 million views in its first 24 hours. You can watch the trailer – again – here, and check out the thoughts of our writing team on both the trailer and the new Spider-Man in the latest Flickering Myth Reaction here, as well as Luke Owen’s feature exploring the evolution of the Spider-Man costume on film here…

…In addition to the trailer, we also got a host of Civil War promotional material this week, including official images of Spider-Man and Black Panther [see here], Hawkeye [see here] and The Winter Soldier [see here], a poster of the heroes all facing off [see here], Team Cap and Team Iron Man teasers [watch them here], character posters for Team Cap [see here] and Team Iron Man [see here], a behind-the-scenes ‘On the Set’ featurette [see here], new promo artwork [see here], and character banners featuring Cap, Winter Soldier, Scarlet Witch and Black Widow [see here]…

…With Civil War marking his seventh appearance as Tony Stark, Robert Downey Jr. was asked about the chances of him starring in Iron Man 4 – and it doesn’t sound like good news for anyone hopeful of another solo outing for the Armored Avenger: “I don’t think [Iron Man 4] is in the cards. In a way [Civil War] is Cap 3 but for me it’s like my little Iron Man 4 and then it’s back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that’s how it is until it changes. If it changes…”

…In a couple of other bits of Civil War news, it has been revealed that the runtime for the film is 147 minutes (that’s four minutes longer than The Avengers and the longest Marvel Studios movie to date), while Disney has unveiled a wave of tie-in products featuring Black Widow as the studio looks to avoid further criticism of under-representing its female characters in its merchandising…

…His debut in the Civil War trailer wasn’t the only Spidey-related news this week as it has been revealed that actress and singer Zendaya has signed on for a key role in Marvel and Sony’s 2017 reboot; details on her character are being kept under wraps, but it’s said that she won’t be a love interest for Peter Parker, nor it is a lead role, but one that will become bigger in future instalments…

…Last week Sylvester Stallone was spotted making his way to the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and now rumour hounds Heroic Hollywood are claiming to have details on his character, suggesting that Sly will be playing one of Yondu’s Ravagers…

…Moving on to the small screen now and ahead of its premiere on Netflix this coming Friday, Flickering Myth’s Scott Davis was lucky enough to attend the Paris premiere of Daredevil season two, where he was joined by stars Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Jon Bernthal (The Punisher) and Elodie Yung (Elektra). You can read Scott’s report here, and be sure to take a look at two new season two motion posters, a brief promo of Daredevil, The Punisher and Elektra suiting up, and a banner revealing The Punisher’s iconic skull logo…

Meanwhile, we have a promo and images for this Tuesday’s episode ‘The Inside Man’ [see here and here] and a clip featuring the Absorbing Man [see here], as well as a synopsis for the following episode ‘Parting Shots’ [see here]…

…Disney XD has released a clip from this Sunday’s episode of Ultimate Spider-Man vs. The Sinister 6, which we have for you here. The episode, entitled ‘Lizards’, which feature guest appearances from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stars Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker as Jemma Simmons and Leo Fitz…
