Deadline is reporting that actress and singer Zendaya (Shake It Up) has signed on for a key role in Sony and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man reboot.
The site reveals that Zendaya is set to play a character called Michelle, and that it is unclear at this point whether she’ll be a love-interest for Peter Parker, who is set to be played by Tom Holland (In the Heart of the Sea).
UPDATE: Variety is reporting that the role is NOT a love interest for Peter, nor is it a lead role, but one that will become bigger in future instalments.
The new Spider-Man film is being directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car), and is set for release on July 7th 2017. However, we will first see Tom Holland as Spidey in this year’s Captain America: Civil War.
