Tyrese Gibson returning for Transformers: The Last Knight

June 28, 2016 by Justin Cook

Following in the footsteps of his longtime Transformers screen partner Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson revealed via a post on Instagram that he will be reprising his role as Sergeant Robert Epps in Transformers: The Last Knight.

In 2007’s Transformers, 2009’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and 2011’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Gibson and Duhamel played soldiers who constantly crossed paths with the protagonist, Sam Witwicky, and assisted in fighting the evil Decepticons.

Gibson, along with all of the human characters in the original live-action Transformers trilogy, took a break from the series with 2014’s Transformers: Age of Extinction, but director Michael Bay seems to have made it his goal to get at least part of the gang back together for the upcoming fifth installment. While it’s more unlikely that such actors as Shia LaBeouf and John Turturro will return for The Last Knight, it’s also not completely outside the realm of possibility.

Transformers isn’t the only high-adrenaline franchise Gibson is attached to, as he will be returning to play Roman Pearce in next year’s Fast 8; both films are currently in production.

Transformers: The Last Knight also reunites Michael Bay with Transformers: Age of Extinction star Mark Wahlberg and Peter Cullen, who will once again voice Autobot leader Optimus Prime. New additions to the cast include Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School), Jerrod Carmichael (Bad Neighbours), Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Anthony Hopkins (Thor: The Dark World). The film hits theaters on June 23rd, 2017.
