WandaVision director is terrified about kicking off the MCU’s Phase 4

January 1, 2021 by Samuel Brace

Matt Shakman, the director of WandaVision for Disney+, says he is nervous about being the Marvel project which begins Phase 4 of the MCU.

Through various delays thanks to the pandemic, WandaVision will become the first Marvel project of the next phase of the MCU. The series will begin on Disney+ this month and will be directed by Matt Shakman.

Shakman certainly understands the responsibility given to the show and sounds a little nervous about it. Speaking to SFX Magazine (via ComicBook.com) he said:

“It’s an honor, and it’s terrifying and it is surreal, like everything else [right now]. The fact that we are the first Marvel MCU property to come out since Endgame, I never could have fathomed that when we first started working on this project… But it is a wonderful way to start Marvel’s work in the streaming world. A show that is a giant love letter to the history of television is a perfect way for the maker of the biggest blockbusters to come to television.”

Shakman also commented on the help of Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige: “Kevin Feige is incredible. He’s been just the best sort of champion for this project, and also the best source of wisdom and guidance. The show beats with a love and an appreciation for the history of television, so it makes sense to be the first one out the gate, even though it wasn’t planned to be that way.”

Hopefully, the series will be a big success and will be a taste of great things to come for Marvel’s Disney+ shows. Luckily, we don’t have long before we get our hands on the first episode.

Marvel Studios’ captivating new series WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany and marks the first series from Marvel Studios streaming exclusively on Disney+. The series is a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision—two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.

WandaVision is set to premiere January 15th, 2021, and features a cast that includes Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Paul Bettany (Vision), Kat Dennings (Darcy Lewis), Randall Park (Agent Jimmy Woo),  Teyonah Parris (Empire) as Monica Rambeau, and Kathryn Hahn (Bad Moms) as Agnes.
