War, passion and power collide in the epic final trailer for Shōgun

February 12, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Ahead of its debut later this month, FX & Hulu have unveiled one final trailer for their epic adaptation of James Clavell’s 1975 novel, Shōgun.

Set in Feudal Japan, the series depicts epic war, passion and power as Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) is forced to fight for his life as the Council of Regents unite against him, but a mysterious English man bearing secrets, John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), who has travelled from a marooned ship in a nearby fishing village, may be able to help tip the scales of power in Toranaga’s favour, while devastating his own enemies. Also starring Anna Sawai (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters), you can check out the extended trailer below…

“When a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village, its English pilot, John Blackthorne (Jarvis), comes bearing secrets that could help Toranaga tip the scales of power and devastate the formidable influence of Blackthorne’s own enemies — the Jesuit priests and Portuguese merchants. Toranaga’s and Blackthorne’s fates become inextricably tied to their translator, Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai), a mysterious Christian noblewoman and the last of a disgraced line. While serving her lord amidst this fraught political landscape, Mariko must reconcile her newfound companionship with Blackthorne, her commitment to the faith that saved her and her duty to her late father.”

Shōgun premieres on Hulu and FX on February 27th, 2024.
