Warner Bros. cancelled a Scooby-Doo movie with the returning Hex Girls

February 18, 2023 by EJ Moreno

For any Scooby-Doo fan, Scooby-Doo! and the Witch’s Ghost is a staple in the franchise.

Not only for its wonderful 1999 animated antics but for introducing The Hex Girls, a fictional female eco-goth-rock band. The trio later appeared in Scooby-Doo! and the Legend of the Vampire, What’s New, Scooby-Doo?, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, as well as Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?.

During an interview with JayBee & Milly YouTube channel, filmmaker Carolyn Gair revealed she was set to helm Scooby-Doo and the Haunted High Rise, a new film that would see the return of the fan-favorite Hex Girls. Gair notes the original voice actors Jennifer Hale, Kimberly Brooks, and Jane Wiedlin were all returning for the film. Sadly, this project was scrapped as a tax write-off, just like Scoob: Holiday Haunt.

The filmmaker added the project was “deep in production,” with all the voice-over work finished and the animation process set to start soon. That’s when David Zaslav cut the film as part of a massive WB clean-up, including the Scoob sequel and the Leslie Grace Batgirl film.

It seems like Gair isn’t hopeful for the project’s future but hasn’t given up complete hope. She adds: “I don’t think they’re going to resuscitate this… My producer keeps saying he doesn’t think it’s going to come back to life. But maybe, who knows? It was locked picture, all dialogue, songs were recorded, it was ready for animation.”

In other Scooby-related news, just this week Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed the production of Season 2 of Mindy Kaling’s controversial HBO Max series Velma.
