Wonder Woman has been banned in Lebanon, new poster released

June 1, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman has been banned in Lebanon due to its star Gal Gadot’s Israeli nationality.

Wonder Woman is riding a wave of anticipation right now with reviews for the movie being particularly impressive; it currently has the highest RT rating of any DC or Marvel movie.

But it isn’t all good news for the WWI superhero movie, as Lebanon has decided to ban the film due to the fact that Gal Gadot hails from the Jewish state of Israel.

The ban was pushed by an anti-Israel group called Campaign to Boycott Supporters of Israel – Lebanon, who pressured the country’s government into blocking the movie.

Lebanon is technically at war with Israel, with a lot of anti-Israeli sentiment permeating that part of the world.

Lebanon already has a law that encourages a boycott of Israeli products, and bans citizens from both travelling to the country and having contact with anyone from it.

It is a little surprising however as a number of Gadot’s other films, including Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, Triple 9, and Knight & Day, have played in Lebanon and were box-office hits there.

The rest of the world will soon be able to enjoy the film however, and ahead of its release director Patty Jenkins has unveiled a new poster; check it out here…

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman will hit cinemas on June 1st in the UK and June 2nd in North America, with Patty Jenkins (Monster) directing a cast that includes Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure), Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead) and Ann Wolf.
