Xbox Live prices to increase in the UK

April 4, 2019 by Andrew Newton

To the dismay of many, the price of Xbox Live Gold is going up this May for UK subscribers with the 12 month price going up by as much as 25% to £49.99 a year and the 3 month subscription going up from £14.99.

The price increase was announced to subscribers today citing “…to address changing market conditions” as their reason for the change, and although this seems a coincidence given the other issue that’s currently big in the country right now it’s worth noting that the cost of Playstation Plus is already £49.99.

The message sent out to gamers reads:

“As of May 08, the 12-month subscription fee for Xbox Live Gold is increasing from £39.99 to £49.99 to address changing market conditions. All current subscribers will keep their current subscription fee for 90 days. You will be charged the new price effective August 7, 2019 unless you choose to cancel your subscription before the next scheduled payment. For more information: https://support.xbox.com.”

Price increases are never popular but the price hasn’t changed now for absolutely years, so is it fair that they’ve increased it now or does their timing suck? Will you be stocking up on Xbox Live like many people in the gaming community are suggesting?  We’d love for you to share your thoughts and opinions on this in the comments below or on our Twitter @Fmyth_Gaming.
