Before the Snyder Cut era, Zack Snyder spent quite a few years with the DC brand, helming Watchman, Man of Steel, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Since the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League however, the filmmaker has found a new home at Netflix and is awaiting the release of his space opera Rebel Moon. But in a new interview with THR, Snyder has looked back at his time with DC Studios, as well as a possible future with the brand.
He starts by stating his time with DC was strange due to the pressure put on him to be a Kevin Feige-like figure, stating: “I never looked at it as the job, ‘Oh, I’m the architect of DC. I need to create entertainment for DC that sells toys, and that is for the masses and fun for everyone. I didn’t care [about that]. I liked Batman, I liked Superman, I wanted to make something cool. You picked the wrong guy if you wanted a product.”
But he isn’t saying he’s over comic boom movies, saying he’s spoken to new DC Studios co-chair James Gunn, “I called him and said I wish all the best for him. I told him I wanted it to work.”
Snyder notes one of the only things that would draw him back to DC would be doing a Dark Knight Returns adaptation, but what he calls “a true representation of the graphic novel.”

He isn’t wholly loyal to DC Studios, though, stating that all Marvel has to do is offer him a chance at adapting Frank Miller’s Elektra Lives Again. “But that’s it,” he insists.

After crash landing on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a stranger with a mysterious past, begins a new life among a peaceful settlement of farmers. Tasked with finding fighters who would risk their lives to defend the people of Veldt, Kora, and Gunnar (Michiel Huisman), a tenderhearted farmer naive in the realities of war, journey to different worlds in search of the Bloodaxes and assemble a small band of warriors who share a common need for redemption along the way: Kai (Charlie Hunnam), a pilot and gun for hire; General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), a legendary commander; Nemesis (Doona Bae), a master swordswoman; Tarak (Staz Nair), a captive with a regal past; and Milius (E. Duffy), a resistance fighter. Back on Veldt, Jimmy (voiced by Anthony Hopkins), an ancient mechanized protector hiding in the wings, awakens with a new purpose. But the newly formed revolutionaries must learn to trust each other and fight as one before the armies of the Motherworld come to destroy them all.
