Comic Book Review – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Color Classics #10

May 2, 2013 by admin

Chris Cooper reviews the latest of IDW’s TMNT ‘Color Classics’ reprints…

“Revisit this TMNT Mirage classic in full glorious colour (continued from TMNT Color Classics Micro Series: Leonardo)!“

The first TMNT film has been a firm favourite of mine since I was a nipper. Not just amongst comic book films but in general. So to read the latest ‘Color Classics’ (Yes MS Word I know it’s spelt wrong) issue to find out it directly influenced the film in a huge way is hugely exciting. Last month’s request was to see how the story continued, and my prayers have been answered!

To go further into the details of the story would be foolish (hence not posting most of the solicitation information), but believe me when I say that if you have any love for the first film at all then you should check this out. Similar enough that I had an idea what could happen, but still managing to keep me in suspense, this issue is crammed full of well-paced action.

Though the issue is very much focused on the main battle, there are several moments that distil characters into their purest form, with simple expressions and dialogue. April is ballsy but fragile, whilst Raphael is angry and itching to get involved in a scrap.

To not pick up these issues each month and call yourself a TMNT fan would be disgraceful! Sure, at times they betray their age but overall they are solid pieces of work that give a great view of the earlier work on these characters. Being the genesis of the phenomenon many of us have grown up with, you really should take it in.
