The BBC confirms recovery of missing Doctor Who episodes

October 8, 2013 by admin

It seems there’s extra cause to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Time Lord this year with the BBC confirming that a number of “lost episodes” of the classic sci-fi series Doctor Who have been recovered, with further details expected to be released later in the week during a press conference.

With the BBC having destroyed many of the original transmission tapes of episodes featuring William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton, there are currently 106 episodes of the show missing, and while it’s unclear at this point how many have been recovered, rumours over the past few months have suggested that over a hundred episodes could have been found. Of course, there’s also the possibility that this figure is completely wide of the mark, but we’ll find out soon enough…

The BBC will mark the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who with a range of events, including the 75-minute special The Day of the Doctor starring Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt as the Doctor, the one-off drama An Adventure in Space and Time featuring David Bradley (Game of Thrones) as William Hartnell, a restored broadcast of the first Who story An Unearthly Child, and much more.
