American Gods no longer in development at HBO

November 22, 2013 by admin

In the golden age of television one of the front runners and leaders of the movement is HBO. It’s been responsible for the likes of The Wire, Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire, amongst others, and many people are paying close attention to what its next titan might be. Unfortunately it seems it won’t be Neil Gaiman’s American Gods.

Earlier this year there was word of an American Gods television show at HBO, with possibly six seasons coming out of one book. However, in a Reddit AMA, Gaiman has revealed that American Gods is still in development, but not at HBO:

“There is an American Gods show  in the works. It’s no longer with HBO. The moment that things are ready to be announced I am sure they will be, either legitimately or via a leak in a big Hollywood Agency mailroom.”

This is sad news in that very few other networks would be able to do American Gods justice.  It would’ve been a perfect fit for HBO. But it’s also good news that it’s still happening. Any networks you’d like to see it brought to? My choice would be FX or even Netflix. Let us know in the comments….
