Jeff Wadlow heading to Eternia for Masters of the Universe

April 10, 2014 by Gary Collinson

According to Schmoes Know, Kick-Ass 2 writer-director Jeff Wadlow has taken on directing duties on Sony’s long-gestating live-action Masters of the Universe reboot, filling the space in the director’s chair vacated by Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation). Wadlow has recently penned the script for 20th Century Fox’s X-Men spin-off X-Force, and should this He-Man rumour prove true, it would seem that Fox will need to find another director to bring Cable, Deadpool and company to the screen.

Sony has been developing Masters since 2009, and in 2010 the studio hired Mike Finch and Alex Litvak to draft a script, which was entitled Greyskull. The script has subsequently been rewritten by Richard Wenk (The Expendables 2) and Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl), while the likes of Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), Rian Johnson (Looper), Phil Lord & Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie), Kirk DeMicco & Chris Sanders (The Croods) and Mike Cahill (Another Earth) have all been mentioned as potential candidates to take over from Chu.

Update – According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wadlow has officially signed on to rewrite Masters of the Universe, and while he is yet to have a deal to direct, “that remains a possibility down the road.

Is Wadlow a good choice to bring He-Man back to the big screen? Let us know your thoughts…
