Kevin Feige confirms that Marvel has the rights to Kingpin and Elektra

April 17, 2014 by Gary Collinson

With production on Marvel Studios’ first Netflix series Daredevil set to get underway this July, it’s only a matter of time before we find out which actor will succeed Ben Affleck as the Man Without Fear, as well as which supporting characters will be making their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut when the road to The Defenders gets underway.

Speaking to IGN, Marvel chief Kevin Feige has confirmed that both Wilson Fisk – a.k.a. The Kingpin – and Elektra Natchios are available to Marvel Studios, should they choose to include the characters in the miniseries: “Kingpin we either have or somehow share,” said Feige. “Namor I think is a little complicated, the way some of them are. Elektra I think we have. I think that was part of Daredevil, and that’s clean and simple.”

As it happens, the rights to Namor the Sub-Mariner remain with Universal Pictures, while producer Avi Arad has previously suggested that Kingpin is available for Sony to use as part of its Amazing Spider-Man franchise, so that appears to be a similar situation to Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, who are shared between Marvel Studios and Fox.

Both Kingpin and Elektra appeared in Fox’s 2003 Daredevil movie, played by Michael Clarke Duncan and Jennifer Garner respectively, while Garner also headlined the 2005 spin-off Elektra.
