First trailer for Money Monster shows George Clooney being held hostage

January 13, 2016 by Justin Cook

Jodie Foster’s latest directorial effort, Money Monster, has just received its first trailer. The brand new footage from the film shows George Clooney (Tomorrowland) portraying a Jim Cramer-esque investment guru/TV personality named Lee Gates who is taken hostage during a live taping of his show by a man with a grudge against him. See the trailer, in which Bruce Springsteen’s song “Devils & Dust” is played, down below…

George Clooney stars as Lee Gates, a bombastic television stock huckster whose program (the titular “Money Monster”) and life are taken hostage by an outraged gunman. As much of the world watches live, Gates must keep himself alive and, with help from the woman who produces the show, uncover the truth behind a tangle of big money lies. Taught and tense, Money Monster unfolds in near real time.

Money Monster is set for release on May 13th and features a cast that also includes Julia Roberts (Secret in Their Eyes), Jack O’Connell (Unbroken), Dominic West (The Affair), Caitriona Balfe (Outlander) and Giancarlo Esposito (The Jungle Book).
