Not content with joining the galaxy far, far away, Project Hail Mary and Barbie star Ryan Gosling will be entering the MCU in Ghost Rider as revealed during Marvel’s Hall H panel at SDCC.
Gosling appeared on stage with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to announce the news. He will play Johnny Blaze, a stuntman and daredevil known for his skills on a motorcycle who sold his soul to the devil and must become the spirit of vengeance known as Ghost Rider. Throughout Ghost Rider‘s publication, there have been multiple incarnations of Ghost Rider as the spirit of vengeance has been passed from one person to the another.
Ghost Rider will be directed by Deadpool & Wolverine helmer Shawn Levy, who recently teamed with Gosling on next year’s Star Wars: Starfighter. The film will be released in 2028, being the first known Marvel film on the schedule after Avengers: Secret Wars will wrap up the Multiverse Saga in December 2027.

Two Ghost Rider films were made starring Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze in 2007’s Ghost Rider and its 2011 sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Coincidentally, Gosling’s wife Eva Mendes starred in the first Ghost Rider as Johnny’s ex-girlfriend Roxanne Simpson.
This will not actually be the first time Ghost Rider has appeared in the MCU as the fourth season of the TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. saw the Robbie Reyes incarnation of Ghost Rider appearing, with The Last of Us‘ Gabriel Luna portraying the character.
