Ghostbusters remake in the works says Ivan Reitman

September 26, 2012 by admin

For the past quarter of a century, there’s been talk every couple of years – usually from star Dan Aykroyd – that the long-rumoured third instalment of the Ghostbusters franchise could finally be one step closer to the screen. However, after countless false starts, it now seems that Ivan Reitman has started to grow weary in his efforts to reunite the gang for Ghostbusters III, with the director telling Collider that: “I think Ghostbusters probably should be remade, if we can get it all right. We’re working on it, so we’ll see.”

The last we heard about Ghostbusters III was back at the start of August when Dan Aykroyd confirmed that Bill Murray had declined the opportunity to link up again with Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson for a third ghostbusting adventure. This came hot on the heels of the news that Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder, Men in Black 3) had been hired by Sony to draft a new script for the third movie, so it remains unclear whether Cohen is still working on the sequel, or if his screenplay relates to the remake that Reitman says is in development.

As well as discussing the status of Ghostbusters, Reitman also touched upon another proposed follow-up to one of his earlier movies, the Twins sequel Triplets, which is rumoured to see Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito gaining a new sibling in Eddie Murphy: “With Triplets, I’m quite nervous about it. I think it’s somebody’s commercial idea, and usually that’s a scary thought. There’s no writer, and there’s no idea yet. I think that was more of a press release than anything else.” Let’s hope it stays that way…
