Ghostbusters 3 to shoot next summer?

October 19, 2012 by admin

Over the past couple of months there have been plenty of twists and turns in the seemingly never-ending saga that is Ghostbusters III; in July, it was reported that Sony had hired Etan Cohen (Men in Black 3) to develop a new script for the long-rumoured sequel, before Dan Aykroyd confirmed the following month that Bill Murray had declined the opportunity to reprise his role as Peter Venkman. Director Ivan Reitman subsequently cast doubts over the sequel last month when he was quoted as stating “I think Ghostbusters should probably be remade,” but now it looks as if the project is moving forward and could begin production in the summer.

According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures have chosen to delay Reitman’s upcoming Kevin Costner-headlined American football comedy Draft Day, with the studio “opting not to make it in the small window that Reitman has before he is expected to finally get the long-gestating Ghostbusters reboot in front of the cameras next summer for Sony Pictures (sans Bill Murray). It would be tough to find room to squeeze in the football film and finish before Reitman goes back to Ghostbusters duty.”

So, sequel or reboot, it looks like the Ghostbusters could finally be making a return to screens, although considering the troubled history of this third instalment, I’d not bet against there being a few more bumps in the road yet.
