NYCC: Jonathan Nolan on The Dark Knight Rises, Robin and returning for a future DC movie

October 15, 2012 by admin

During the New York Comic Con, IGN caught up with Jonathan Nolan, younger brother of director Christopher Nolan and screenwriter of this summer’s epic conclusion to the ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises.

Nolan shared his thoughts on the ending to the blockbuster sequel, comparing it to Memento in terms of ambiguity, as well as discussing the inclusion of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s John Blake character, who – and a potential spoiler warning here for anyone who’s been living under a rock these past few months – is of course the Nolanized version of Batman’s trusty side-kick Robin:

“The wink towards Robin was an acknowledge that you like the character or not like the character, it’s a huge part of that universe for seventy years,” said Nolan, who then went on to express his desire to return to DC Comics’ stable of superheroes at some point in the future: “For now I’m most interested in tackling Finch and Reese [on Person of Interest]… but yeah, DC has got some fantastic properties, I’d love to take another crack at it at some point.”

So, while Christopher Nolan has firmly stated that The Dark Knight Rises would be his final foray into Gotham City, it seems that Jonathan is fully open to a return. Could he perhaps be a potential candidate to succeed his brother as custodian of the Batman franchise, or maybe even Warner Bros.’ Justice League movie?

Holy Franchise, Batman! Bringing the Caped Crusader to the Screen – Available now via Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com .
