Zack Snyder talks Man of Steel, Dark Knight comparisons and making Superman cool

May 29, 2013 by admin

As the countdown to Man of Steel continues, director Zack Snyder has appeared on Canada’s Breakfast Television to discuss the eagerly-anticipated Superman reboot, explaining a little about his reasons to sign on to the film, as well as discussing comparisons to The Dark Knight Trilogy, given that TDK supremo Christopher Nolan has helped to develop the story, as well as serving as producer.

“Superman, I’m a bit of a fan so having the opportunity to work on Superman is a little bit of a dream come true. [It was] super exciting, a little bit of pressure but really fun,” said Snyder, before explaining the parallels between the upcoming film and Nolan’s blockbuster Bat-trilogy. “[The only similarity is] that it’s a modern way in looking at the characters. Everyone’s used to Superman in a way, maybe in your mind you say, ‘I know exactly what Superman is.’ We were able to say [with Man of Steel], what about this way of looking at him? We tried to make him more modern but it’s hard to talk about him that way, in those terms. Everyone asks ‘Oh, did you make him more modern’ but what does that mean? We just tried to make him cool.”

And finally, as we await word from Warner Bros. as to the studio’s plans for its DC properties post-Man of Steel, Snyder was asked about the recent rumour that Henry Cavill’s Superman could link up with The Dark Knight for a World’s Finest movie: “I haven’t heard that but that sounds awesome. That’s how rumors get started, I did not know that.”

Man of Steel opens on June 14th, with a cast that also includes Michael Shannon (The Iceman) as General Zod, Amy Adams (The Fighter) as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner (Hatfields & McCoys) as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane (Secretariat) as Martha Kent, Laurence Fishburne (Contagion) as Perry White, Antje Traue (Pandorum) as Faora and Ayelet Zurer (Angels & Demons) as Lara Lor-Van.
