Rumoured shortlist of directors for Masters of the Universe

January 12, 2014 by admin

Sony Pictures’ long-gestating live-action reboot of Masters of the Universe looked to be moving closer to becoming a reality back in 2012 when director Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) signed on to bring He-Man and his pals to the screen, only for the filmmaker to leave the project in limbo this past October, dropping out to concentrate his efforts on G.I. Joe 3.

Well, it seems we might now have an indication as to who the studio is considering as Chu’s replacement, with the guys over at Schmoes Know claiming to have the inside track on Sony’s shortlist for the director’s chair, with a source stating that Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), Rian Johnson (Looper), Andy Muschietti (Mama), Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders (The Croods) and Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street) are all in the frame.

Of course, that’s a pretty wide field, and there’s nothing to say that any of these names will end up taking on the job. For the time being, all we know for certain is that Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lone Ranger scribe Terry Rossio is working on a new draft of the script, which has previously passed through the hands of Alex Litvak and Mike Finch (Predators), as well as Richard Wenk (The Expendables 2).

Who would you like to see directing the He-Man reboot? Let us know in the comments below…
